Rio de Janeiro: Visiting the Lage Park

A very rich man falls in love with a lyric singer. They get married. And, as a gift, he builds for her a roman palace, with a swimming pool inside. The palace is surrounded by a great garden, like the ones in Europe. This fairytale really exists and it originated the place that is knows as Lage Park, in Rio de Janeiro.

In this location, there is nowadays as art school. But, even if you are not interested in studying visual arts, you can visit the park and, maybe, have a picnic with your family and friends in its beautiful spots.

Only some blocks away from Botanic Garden, you might think that Lage Park is not as interesting as its famous cousin (Botanic Garden). But this is a place you should visit in Rio. Walking through the garden, raise your eyes to see the Christ Statue looking at you, with His arms wide open. It´s a fantastic view.

In the palace the rich man built to his lover, there are nowadays classrooms, the beautiful swimming pool and a cafe, where tourists and students sit in cushions and rest, just chatting and doing nothing.

The gardens that surround the mansion are part of the Tijuca National Park. You can see there species from the Atlantic Forest, lakes, an aquarium and a cavern.

You can also visit the Botanic Garden at the same day, but it´s important for you to remember that this kind of program is to be done calmly and slowly.

If you still have time, you can go on a walk through the Botanic Garden neighbourhood, where there are bars and nice restaurants.

Address: 414, Jardim Botânico Street, Jardim Botânico. The park is open from 8 to 17 everyday. You do not have to pay to visit it.
